Off on a Christmas mission December 19, 2006Posted by isabelleinnamibia in Namibia, Out of the city.
Firstly I will quickly apologise for my lack of stories recently. After an insanely busy week in the field (which was finished off with the most violent bout of food poisoning I have ever had), I had a whirlwind visit to the UK, and only just got back yesterday.
But now I am back, my adventures will truly begin. Tomorrow morning, my mate Joost and I will set off in his car, Red Rachel, and drive from Windhoek, Namibia, to Kande Beach, Malawi. We aim to get there on Christmas Eve, where we will join other VSO YfDs for Christmas.
Our journey will involve a lot of hard driving and hard sleeping (camping or crashing on mates’ floors), with the reward of 4 days on the beach with a massive Xmas dinner (www.kandebeach.com). Our route will go as follows:
Day 1: Windhoek to Rundu, staying in a homestead with a friend of Julien’s.
Day 2: Rundu to Livingstone, camping at a hostel.
Day 3: Livingstone to Lusaka, staying with Rachel, another YfD.
Day 4: Lusaka to Chipata, staying with Sally-Anne and Henry, other YfDs.
Day 5: Chipata, over the border to Lake Malawi.
It’s around 3500km, should be great.
And when we leave, we willl travel back to Livingstone, where we will be spending New Year’s with about 30 friends and volunteers. Alexa, a YfD who is based there, has hired us a boat, for a sunset cruise on the Zambezi on New Year’s Eve, with a free bar and buffet. Hurrah!
Lots to do, so better dash. Will keep you up to date with our progress, as much as technology allows.
Wish us luck!
And if I don’t have a chance to say so beforehand, I wish you all a very merry christmas and a fantasic new years.
